Japan creates new court for business disputes

THE WHAT? Japan has combined its Intellectual Property High Court and three bankruptcy divisions into one specialist entity to deal with business activities, according to a report published by Nikkei Asia.

THE DETAILS The new branch of the Tokyo District Court will be known as the Business Court and its hoped that it will be able to coordinate with similar entities abroad to mediate cross-border disputes.

THE WHY? Not only will the courts benefit from shared resources but also it is hoped that, by combining forces, and new digital connectivity, proceedings will be faster and more efficient.
