US tween fashion and beauty brand Justice has pulled one of its make-up products from the shelves after a WTVD report claimed that the company’s Just Shine Shimmer Powder contained ‘deadly levels of asbestos’, according to a report published by ABC2 News.
Justice has since carried out its own enquiry, and found WTVD’s allegations to be ‘simply inaccurate’.
Just Shine Shimmer Powder forms part of a line of cosmetics products targeted at children. The scandal has highlighted yet again the need for tighter, independent regulation for cosmetics in the US and will no doubt firm up support for the proposed Personal Care Safety Act, which calls for greater FDA powers to evaluate and police product safety.
