THE WHAT? Beauty companies Kao and Kosé have joined forces to launch a collaborative comprehensive sustainability program.
THE DETAILS The two companies will collaborate on fields such as people, society and environment in a bid to identify solutions in the cosmetics industry that can contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
Kao and Kosé will launch joint initiatives in order work on ‘environmental protection and a resource-circulating society’, which include incorporating environmentally friendly materials into packaging, promoting resource circulation and upcycling measures, as well as sourcing materials with limited environmental impact.
The companies will also work together to address social challenges by jointly deploying awareness raising activities relating to skincare and UV care, as well as raising awareness relating to respect for beauty diversity.
Both Kao and Kosé have previously launched their own ESG initiatives, however believe that a collaborative effort is key to enacting change.
According to a press release, “In recent years, a variety of social challenges have assumed increasing importance, including climate change, resource shortages, and plastic waste in the world’s oceans, and a shift to a sustainable global society is needed. In addition, these challenges are having a major impact on markets themselves by bringing about changes in consumer needs.”
THE WHY? Discussing the challenges, the companies jointly stated, “Finding solutions to these challenge themes is often beyond the capacity of individual enterprises, but if corporations can collaborate in this regard, there is increasing potential for more effective, rapid achievement of results.”
