THE WHAT? Kao has announced that it will use its sebum RNA monitoring technology to develop a system, via a joint initiative with istyle, that enables the efficient selection of cosmetics based on skin RNA types.
THE DETAILS This spring onwards, the duo will collect the RNA in the sebum of consenting members of istyle’s @cosme site. The initiative will analyze the skin RNA type and the cosmetics selected and then build a database based on the data from 10,000 people for efficient cosmetic selection.
THE WHY? The study is designed to match specific products to individual skin types in a bid to enhance customer satisfaction, and help reduce product waste due to an imbalance between supply and demand.
