Korea introduces stricter labelling legislation to include sanitary towels and face masks

The Korean Food and Drug Safety Ministry has announced stricter legislation to enforce more stringent labelling policy changes, which will include all paper-based medical devices such as face masks and sanitary towels.

The move follows consumer safety concerns regarding the 2017 crisis, which found volatile organic compounds in menstrual care products, according to the Korea Herald.

Designed to ‘strengthen safety management while reducing procedural regulations that are irrelevant to safety,’ according to the Ministry, the new 2018 legislations will also include a new certification process for natural and organic cosmetic items, as well as a new license for the manufacturing of customized products.

The guidelines will develop further as the year goes on, and will include all paper-based products.
