L’Oréal scoops Sustainable Beauty award for key ingredient quinoa husk extract

L’Oréal has been recognised by Organic Monitor for its use of quinoa husk extract. The French Beauty giant picked up the Sustainable Ingredient gong at the Sustainable Beauty Awards in October.

The prize-winning ingredient is used by Kiehl’s in its Nightly Refining Micro Peel Concentrate. Developed from quinoa husk, which is considered waste in the agro-food industry, the ingredient is sustainably sourced by L’Oréal together with local partners in Bolovia.

“As part of the 2020 objectives of the Sharing Beauty With All program, we have committed to improve the environmental or social profile of 100 percent of our products,” said L’Oréal in a statement. “L’Oréal therefore favors the use of renewable raw materials that are sustainably sourced of derived from green chemistry.”
