LinkedIn pulls out of China citing ‘challenging environment’

THE WHAT? LinkedIn has announced its decision to ‘sunset’ the current localized version of LinkedIn in China later this year.

THE DETAILS The social networking site will launch InJobs, a new standalone jobs application for China in its stead, which will not include a social feed or the ability to share posts or articles.

THE WHY? LinkedIn said that, while it has helped Chinese members find jobs and economic opportunity, it hasn’t been as successful in the more social aspects of sharing and staying informed and, faced with a more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements, has decided to call time on the local site.
