THE WHAT? London City Airport has become the major UK airport to abandon the 100ml liquid carry-on rules, according to a report by Bloomberg.

THE DETAILS The airport will now allow passengers to pass through security without having to remove liquids from hand luggage, having installed new CT scanners to generate more detailed images of bag contents.

Passengers will also no longer have to limit toiletries and liquids to 100ml, or put them in clear plastic bags.

THE WHY? New and innovative technology has allowed for the rules to be eased, with the UK Government requiring all UK airports to use the tech by June 2024, making travel even easier following its resurgence after the pandemic.

Alison FitzGerald, London City’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “The new process delivers a much more efficient security operation with enhanced security screening.”
