THE WHAT? London’s Covent Garden district is set to reopen to shoppers next Monday, June 15, according to a press release issued by the retail and dining destination.
THE DETAILS Shops will open their doors again for the first time since lockdown began, having optimised their stores in line with government guidelines on social distancing. Chanel, Charlotte Tilbury, Tiffany & Co and Dior will all welcome back customers, relying on hand sanitizer stations, marked queuing areas and a one-ways system to keep staff and shoppers safe.
THE WHY? The UK government has green-lighted the opening of non-essential retailers from June 15, while pubs and restaurants are slated to open by July 4 at the latest. Whether the central London shopping district will attract much footfall in the coming weeks with many offices still closed, non-essential travel ill-advised and tourists subject to quarantine restrictions is another question altogether.
