L’Oréal has been granted leave to go ahead with a deal to acquire beauty product customer data from Bon-Ton, according to a report published by Reuters.
The French beauty giant will pay some US$312,900 for the information held by the bankrupt department store chain after prevailing in an auction for the mailing list at an auction in July. The database in question is described as ‘promotable email addresses’. Under the terms of the deal, the purchase price is subject to adjustment according to the final number of customer details listed. L’Oréal is said to be interested in maintaining contact with a ‘large pool’ of Lancôme and L’Oréal customers who will no longer be in catchment for a bricks and mortar store.
The sale was approved by the US Bankruptcy Court in Delaware after a court-appointed privacy ombudsman gave the greenlight.
