L’Oréal is to launch its ground-breaking acne diagnosis tool in China on Alibaba Group’s platforms. The Effaclar Spotscan will make its debut on Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao e-commerce apps in June, according to a press release from Alibaba Group.

And China, as the important digitalization and innovation hub for L’Oréal Group, is the most powerful driving force,” said L’Oréal China CEO Stéphane Rinderknech. “Today, Effaclar Spotscan is a milestone for us to create a disruptive beauty experience with open innovation, and bring a better life for people around the world.”
“Millions of consumers on Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao are plagued by acne. Through AI technology, they can now gain a better understanding of the state of their skin and choose the skincare solutions that are right for them, in an effective and convenient manner, without even having to leave their homes,” said Wang Yeming, GM of Alibaba Cloud EMEA.
Acne is said to the be the most common skin condition among urban Chinese consumers, with 45 percent of men and 38 percent of men reporting acne as their main skin concern, according to figures from Mintel.
