THE WHAT? Lawsuits have been filed in the states of New York, California and Illinois claiming that regular use of chemical hair straighteners produced by L’Oréal, among other companies, caused the plaintiffs to develop cancer, according to a report published by The Daily Mail.  

THE DETAILS L’Oréal contends that its products are safe and that the claims have ‘no legal merit;, per The Daily Mail. The latest cases follow a similar suit filed last month in the Southern District of New York.

THE WHY? The plaintiffs’ claim is based on a government-funded study, which found a ‘probable link’ between the use of chemical straighteners and cancer.
