THE WHAT? Lush North America has taken to social media to issue an apology from its UK branch after the latter was discovered to have donated £3,000 to an anti-trans lobbying group.
THE DETAILS “At Lush, we believe trans rights are human rights, period,” the US and Canadian branch posted on its Instagram account. “Over the last couple of days, questions have been raised regarding a past donation made by Lush UK to Woman’s Place UK. Woman’s Place UK is recognized for its transphobic campaigns against trans-inclusive initiatives.
“In a statement released yesterday, Lush UK said, ‘We feel that money has gone to work that we would not feel proud to support and we wish to apologize unreservedly for that. We can assure you we are looking at all we do to try to strengthen our processes against further mistakes.’”
THE WHY? The North American unit was left with little choice but to post a public apology on behalf of its UK counterpart since the UK branch quit social media last year, leaving its US account to deal with the fall out of the Woman’s Place UK revelation published by Pink News.
