Mandom Corp recalls scalp care line over egg allergy concerns

THE WHAT? J-beauty company, Mandom Corp has recalled four scalp care products after receiving reports of adverse reactions in those allergic to eggs, according to a report published by Mainichi.

THE DETAILS The products are all said to contain lysozyme hydrochloride, which is derived from egg white.

The company said it was alerted to three incidents in children aged between 2 and 10 with symptoms varying from nettle rash to anaphylactic shock. All products carried a warning that they contain an ingredient derived from eggs.

THE WHY? A spokesperson for the company told Mainichi, “Following health damage consultations, we started alerting consumers via our website in July 2020, and added a label to products that were shipped in 2021, but we have judged that strengthening written warnings alone is not an adequate response.”
