New York braces for CBD ban

Retailers throughout New York are preparing to pull CBD-based food, drinks and supplements from their shelves as a city-wide ban on edibles containing the popular ingredient is poised to come into force, according to a report published by the New York Post.

The ban comes into effect on July 1 and businesses found to be flouting the city’s new regulation, ushered in by its Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in response to FDA ban, will be subject to fines of between US$200 to US$600 from October 1.

“The health department is responsible for promoting the safety of the food available to New Yorkers,” the regulatory body said in a statement, per the New York Post.

Similar bans have been enacted in Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Maine and Portland.
