THE WHAT? New York-based celebrity hair stylist Julien Farel has amassed a 1000-strong waitlist in anticipation of the salon reopening post-coronavirus lockdown, according to a report by Bloomberg.
THE DETAILS Known for his work with stars such as Katie Holmes, Cristina Cuomo and Rafael Nadal, Farel is making preparations for the re-opening of his salon, based in the Loews Regency hotel, with 50 of the 150 staff on unpaid leave set to return.
Prices begin at $160 for a regular stylist, and rise to $1000 for Farel himself. Like many, the salon has created social distancing and hygiene safety measures, with stylists set to wear shields, colorists wearing gloves, and chairs placed apart.
While on lockdown Farel has stated he has done open-air private consultations for clients in the Hamptons.
THE WHY? The waitlist for the upmarket salon highlights the eventual resurgence of the professional beauty market once lockdowns have been lifted.
However, despite the client base being there for the future, Farel’s wife told Bloomberg that salon revenue is set to fall by a third this year, showcasing the financial impact COVID-19 will have on both high end and mass establishments.
