Pete Markey named as Boots’ Chief Marketing Officer

THE WHAT? Pete Markey has been named as the new Chief Marketing Officer for UK high street retailer Boots, effective February 2021, according to Campaign.

THE DETAILS Joining the company from TSB, where he held the same position, Markey will be responsible for all marketing activity as well as working on the Walgreens Boots Alliance partnership with Adobe and Microsoft to create personalised shopping experiences.

Succeeding Helen Normoyle, Markey will report to Vineet Mehra, SVP, Global Chief Marketing Officer, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Chief Customer Officer at Walgreens.

THE WHY? Heading up the ‘overall execution of marketing plans across physical and digital touchpoints’, Markey arrives at Boots during a reflective digital growth period for all companies following the boom in e-commerce instigated by the pandemic.

Speaking about the appointment, Mehra said, “Pete is a world-class marketeer, whose deep understanding of consumer analytics and innovative approach to engaging with customers will help take the Boots marketing approach to the next level.

“This is a pivotal role for Boots and his extensive experience will be invaluable as we seek to achieve our vision to become a truly modern, digitally native marketing organisation, while advancing our mass personalisation strategy.”
