A global competition has been launched by the Green Chemistry & Commerce Council (GC3) and InnoCentive to find innovators that are developing preservatives with improved safety profiles for use in cosmetics, personal care and household products.
With a prize pool of $175,000, a minimum single prize fund of £25,000 will be awarded in three to five cash prizes. The competition is being sponsored by the likes of Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson, and is ‘open to broad-spectrum or single action chemical agents effective on gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, yeast and mold, as well as preservative boosters and multi-functional ingredients which have a primary non-preserving function yet enhance antimicrobial efficacy.’
Jennifer Duran, Director Product Sustainability at Reckitt Benckiser (RB), another sponsor, said, “RB is excited to partner with GC3 and others to accelerate the development of novel safe and effective preservatives which play a critical role in providing consumers with safe products.”
Five finalists will showcase their technologies early next year and will have the opportunity to network with various consumer product companies, major retailers, and preservative suppliers.
Other cosmetic sponsors include Babyganics, Beautycounter,
