THE WHAT? Last week in a succession announcement, Procter & Gamble named both its new CEO and COO (Jon Moeller and Shailesh Jejurikar respectively) but, in all the fanfare, one important detail was lost: Jejurikar is the first Indian National to take up such a key role at the US FMCG giant, according to a report published by the India Times.
THE DETAILS Jejurikar’s appointment is effective October 1, 2021 and his successor as CEO of the company’s Fabric & Home Care unit is yet to be announced.
Born in Mumbai, Jejirukar joined P&G in 1989 and his career at the US FMCG giant has spanned multiple businesses in both developed and developing regions. In the fall, he will have profit/loss responsibility for P&G’s Enterprise Markets as well as leading on IT, Global Business Services, Sales, Market, Operations, New Business, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Distribution efforts for the company.
THE WHY? In his current role, Jejurikar is responsible for approximately a third of company earnings and has delivered industry-leading results and value creation through innovation, a synchronized E2E supply chain, brand-building and sales. He also leads on Global Sustainability initiatives, ensuring the manufacturer of Olay’s sustainability initiatives are fully integrated into the day-to-day business.
