Reckitt Benckiser and Hindustan Unilever granted injunction to stay Patanjali TV commercial

Reckitt Benckiser and Hindustan Unilever have both been granted an ad interim injunction to prevent Patanjali from broadcasting a television commercial that allegedly slams ‘chemical-based soaps’ and makes thinly veiled references denigrating Lux, Pears, Dove, Lifebuoy and Dettol products, according to a report published by LiveMint.

“I do not know which television as they are referring to. As per our communication strategy, we promote natural, herbal and ayurvedic products. Our objective is to inform the masses about the consequences of using harmful chemical products in all our television campaigns. Sine this matter is sub-judice, we will seek the details and give the reply to the Hon’ble court,” SK Tijarawala, spokesperson for Patanjali Ayurved told LiveMint.

The ad, which uses a play on the branded soaps’ popular slogans to subtly disparage the multinational offer, has now been removed from YouTube pending a court hearing, which is scheduled for September 18.
