REN Clean Skincare to debut 100 percent recycled bottle made from reclaimed ocean plastic

REN Clean Skincare is set to become one step closer to achieving its goal of becoming a Zero Waste company with the launch of a new green packaging solution for its award-winning Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Body Wash.

The Unilever-owned prestige brand has partnered with TerraCycle to create a 100 percent recycled bottle containing 20 percent reclaimed ocean plastic. The bottles will hit shelves from late summer 2018. To further reduce the environmental impact of the bottle, each will be fitted with a metal-free pump.

The new hybrid recycled / ocean plastic packaging will; be phased in across the entire range, which includes hand and body lotions, by early 2019.

“The beauty industry is one of the worst offenders when it comes to over-use of packaging and an alarming percentage of it is non-recyclable. When not designed properly, plastic packaging cannot be recycled and lasts for decades, and even centuries, in landfills causing toxicity to our oceans, rivers, lakes and beaches. REN Clean Skincare participates in cleanups to educate on the issue and designs its packs to avoid entry into the environment by following the principles reduce, reuse and recycle. Finally, we call upon the beauty industry to take all necessary actions to reduce packaging waste,” said Arnaud Meysselle, Chief Executive Officer at REN Clean Skincare.
