THE WHAT? Russia has revealed plans to open a series of duty-free stores where diplomats will be able to purchase products from western brands using foreign currency, according to a report published by The Guardian.
THE DETAILS Shoppers will need to prove that they are a foreign diplomat or employee of an international organisation to enter the store and payment will be accepted in euros or dollars.
THE WHY? Several western brands have pulled out of Russia since the invasion of Ukraine making popular products from multinationals impossible to procure. The stores could provide a work around for certain members of Russian society.
