Saint Laurent, Balenciaga adapt production to create face masks in wake of shortages

THE WHAT? Kering-owned brands Saint Laurent and Balenciaga are set to adapt their production facilities to create face masks in a bid to alleviate the shortage within France following the coronavirus outbreak, according to Reuters.

THE DETAILS The French luxury brands are expected to commence manufacture of the face masks following formal approval of their processes and materials.

Parent company Kering has also stated it will give French authorities three million face masks, which it will source and import from China.

THE WHY? The decision to adapt production to face masks follows growing unrest within France regarding the lack of protective gear, and echoes that of rival LVMH, which last week also announced it would procure 40 million masks from China.
