Coty-owned direct sales business Younique is struggling to recruit ‘presenters’, as it calls its sales representatives, according to a report published by The Drum, leading to a drop in revenue and profit for the digital multi-level marketing firm.
“The weakness is relatively simple,” Chief Executive Pierre Laubies told The Drum. “Younique, like all multi-level marketing businesses, [has gone] through a phase of classic hype. Unfortunately, we are in the de-hype phase.”
The business has been particularly hard hit, says The Drum, quoting Laubies, by algorithm changes at Facebook. Laubies revealed that the company was looking into alternative digital media channels as well as ushering in a ‘rhythm of innovation’ centred on its core products.
