Sephora Launches Global Sustainability Seals

THE WHAT?  Sephora announced the launch of two global sustainability seals, “Clean at Sephora” and “Planet Aware at Sephora,” during the ChangeNow summit in Paris, aimed at increasing transparency and standardization across its product offerings worldwide. These seals, which will be introduced in April, are part of Sephora’s effort to harmonize its environmental commitments and formula communications globally, as shared by its executive team including President and CEO Guillaume Motte.

THE DETAILS  The initiative to develop these seals involved collaboration with external environmental and scientific experts over two years, building upon Sephora’s sustainability efforts that began in 2018. Initially implemented regionally, Sephora’s sustainable product labels have expanded across the U.S., Europe, and other regions, leading to a significant increase in its sustainable product assortment.

THE WHY?  Sephora’s sustainability seals are designed to encourage beauty brands towards more responsible product development and transparency, with criteria set for ingredients, sourcing, packaging, and corporate commitments. The seals will be introduced in phases across North America, Europe, the U.K., the Middle East, Brazil, Mexico, and are planned for China by 2025, demonstrating Sephora’s ambition to play a pivotal role in fostering a more responsible beauty industry.
