Following the popularity of Japanese cosmetics brands with Chinese tourists, 10 Japanese beauty companies have teamed up with internet retailer Aksul to sell their products to Chinese consumers on Alibaba’s T-mall Global site, according to a report published by Nikkei’s Asian Review.
The group, which includes Shiseido and Unicharm, will develop dedicated products for the Chinese market, with packaging designed to appeal to Chinese consumers, as well as share sales data to inform potential multi-brand package deals.
Together, the companies will list around 300 items known to be popular with Chinese tourists initially, before developing their offer in line with purchase history.
The team will also work together on logistics, with Aksul managing inventories for the manufacturers at Alibaba’s bonded warehouse.
