Shiseido has announced the appointment of Marc Rey as President and CEO of the Japanese cosmetics firm’s Americas unit. Rey will take up the role on September 1, 2015.
Rey will report to Masahiko Uotani, President and CEO of Shiseido Co and is charged with developing a strategic vision for Shiseido’s Americas business, growing Shiseido’s prestige franchises, identifying investment opportunities and enhancing the organizational structure of the operation.
Rey will also take on the role of Global Strategic Brand Holder for Shiseido’s NARS cosmetics and Bare Escentuals brands, working closely with the senior leadership and management teams to develop and support the global strategy and growth of the brands.
Rey’s most recent role was President of Coty USA and Regional Senior Vice President of North America. He has also served as President, International Designers Collections at L’Oréal USA and CEO and President of Yves Saint Laurent Beauté (PPR-Gucci Group).
“Marc’s deep and wide beauty knowledge, his experience operating simultaneously in a regional and global brand leadership capacity in a matrix organization, and his motivational, inspiring leadership are a perfect fit for Shiseido. With these qualifications, he will help take not only the Americas but also the entire Shiseido Group to the next level of success,” said Uotani.
Separately, Shiseido also announced that Heidi Manheimer has resigned from her role as CEO of Shiseido Cosmetics America, effective September 30, 2015. “I am proud of what Shiseido Cosmetics America has accomplished in the US beauty industry and where the brand stands today, not only in terms of sales and market-share growth but also our product innovation and popularity among consumers. I have been fortunate to work with an incredibly talented, dedicated team at Shiseido, and I thank each and every one of them for their support and hard work. I look forward to assisting Marc over the next two months and I am confident that SCA and all Shiseido’s US brands will enjoy success and growth under his leadership,” she said.
