THE WHAT? Shiseido has announced that its wholly owned subsidiaries Shiseido Japan and Shiseido Pharmaceutical will merge at the end of the year.

THE DETAILS Shiseido Japan will take over Shiseido Pharmaceutical’s business via an absorption-type split, effective January 1, 2024.

THE WHY? As part of its medium-term growth strategy, Shiseido has identified clean beauty, derma skin care and wellness as opportunities and its Pharmaceutical unit has brands in these domains, which Shiseido Japan, with its control of domestic marketing and sales operations, can build upon.
