THE WHAT? Anya Hindmarch has filled three of her London stores with some 90,000 plastic bottles to raise awareness of plastic pollution during Fashion Week, according to a report published by The Independent.
THE DETAILS The accessories designed closed the stores in question for the three-day event. The number of plastic bottles was chosen to represent the amount of single use plastic that is purchased every six seconds around the world.
“The problem of single-use plastic and landfill is far from over, however the mission has shifted from simply being about the ‘awareness’ of using less plastic to being more about the ‘circularity’ of the use of materials in the supply chain,” Hindmarch told The Independent.
THE WHY? As well as drawing attention to the environmental impact of our consumption, the designer was also raising awareness of the latest collection and campaign, I Am A Plastic Bag. The range comprises bags made from recycled plastic bottles with a leather trim.
