South African Airways has launched an online duty-free shop, which enables passengers to purchase goods at home and have items delivered directly to their seat on the plane.
The Fly South African Airways (SAA) Duty Free online shop is operated by airline concessionaire, Tourvest In-flight Retail Services at www.flysaadutyfree.co.za.
The site, which utilizes the carrier’s Extraordinair freight and cargo network, is said to meet a need identified among passengers for cheaper and convenient methods of purchasing duty free goods.
Products on offer the website include fragrances, watches, sunglasses, jewellery, cosmetics, cameras, handbags, wallets and toys.
SAA claims to have paid special attention to competitive local prices in order to tactically find the best price for the customer. Duty free prices are up to 45% lower than those found in the local market.
A spokesperson for SAA commented, “Let’s face it; online is more convenient. There is no need to rush around at terminals searching for the perfect gift, or your favourite brand. There is no need to panic when you have forgotten to get that special gift on board for your loved one. And there is certainly no need to worry that you will not find it at a duty free cost. All you have to do is visit the online store, select your product and pay.”
