Takasago to move into personal wash category as Indian fragrance market takes flight

The Indian arm of Japanese flavors and fragrance firm Takasago is considering a move into the personal wash category, according to a report published by The Hindu Business Line.

The announcement comes off the back of strong growth in the personal fragrance arena, particularly deodorants and air care, which are growing at 27 percent and 50 percent respectively, according to TTP Shaheel, Managing Director, Takasago International India.

Takasago has committed to a US$10 million investment in the Indian market as it evolves. According to Shaheel, both women and men currently buy into the same scents for deodorants, but the bar soap and shampoo categories are becoming more polarized along gender lines as the category matures, with scents such as jasmine and rose making an appearance.
