MasterCard has updated its Masterpass program, enabling users to make contactless payments in spas and stores via their Android device, according to a report published by WWD.
The Masterpass service operates as a ‘digital wallet’, storing card details, shipping information and payment preferences and could offer useful features such as a balance check. The service is open to a wide range of cardholders, including Visa, American Express and Discover but at present only via Android. Masterpass expects this to change as more banks sign up.
Masterpass’ current banking partners include Bank of America and Virginia Credit Union. The new service will be rolled out across the US this month, before being launched in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
