Target to extend curbside services with contactless returns and Starbucks

THE WHAT? Target has announced plans to enhance its popular same-day pickup services this fall. The company will begin testing an option for shoppers to add a Starbucks order or make a return within its free, contactless curbside service via the Target app.

THE DETAILS The idea stems from a customer survey where a Drive Up order was top of guests’ wishlists, Target revealed. App users will be able to alert the store that they are en route and then place an order from the Starbucks’ menu. On arrival, a Target Drive Up team member will deliver the order to the guests’ car.

THE WHY? The latest additions will further build on Target’s strategy of using the company’s nearly 2,000 stores as fulfilment hubs, powering its suite of contactless, same-day services.

Chief Stores Officer, Mark Schindele, commented, “Our guests continue to tell us they love the easier and convenience of Drive Up and the have been asking us to add even more the Target experience to the service. Adding a Starbucks order and easy returns, while expanding our backup item options will give guests even more of what they love about shipping at Target, quickly and easily. Ongoing investments in our same-day services have built trust and relevance with our guests, while meeting their needs – no matter how they choose to shop.”
