THE WHAT? Tesco has become the first UK supermarket to offer band aids in a range of different skin tones, according to a report published by the BBC.
THE DETAILS The range was developed in response to a viral tweet posted by Dominque Apollon last year which read, “It’s taken me 45 trips around the sun, but for the first time in my life I know what it feels to have a band aid in my own skin tone.”
The line comprises band aids in three shades: light, medium and dark and was supported by the BAME at Tesco internal colleague network.
“Our customers are at the heart of everything we do and we continually review our products and services to best meet their need,” said Nicola Robinson, Health, Beauty and Wellness Director told The Drum. “As one of the largest retailers in the UK, we also understand that we have a responsibility to ensure our products reflect the diversity of our customers and colleagues.”
THE WHY? With diversity and inclusion key to winning customers hearts and wallets, Tesco has spotted an opportunity to widen its customer base and win loyalty.
