THE WHAT? The Estee Lauder Companies (ELC) has announced its support of the UN Global LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business, the UN Human Rights Office’s 5 standards of conduct to support the business community in confronting discrimination of lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex people.
THE DETAILS The partnership was driven by wELCome, ELC’s employee resource group for LGBTQA employees.
“The UN is grateful to see The Estée Lauder Companies, one of the world’s largest and best-known manufacturer and marketer of prestige skincare, make-up, fragrance and hair care products, join more than 266 of the world’s largest companies in expressing support for the United Nations Global LGBTI Standards for Business. Businesses have a key role to play in keeping the momentum for LGBTI equality globally and The Estée Lauder Companies’ support is a strong signal to the industry and beyond,” said Fabrice Houdart, United Nations Human Rights Officer and Co-author of the Standards.
THE WHY? The initiative forms part of The Estee Lauder Companies’ greater diversity and inclusivity drive. As Marilu Marshall, Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer at ELC explains, “Companies have important opportunities to foster diversity and promote a culture of respect and equality in the workplace, in the marketplace and in the communities where we work. We are steadfast in our support of the UN Standards of Conduct for Business, a thoughtful framework to tackle discrimination.”
