TheFaceShop wins trademark battle against fashion retailer Mango

K-beauty brand TheFaceShop has won through in a trademark battle with Spanish fast-fashion house Mango, according to a report published by The Straits Times.

The dispute, which was fought in the Singaporean courts, centred on TheFaceShop’s application to patent its Mango Seed TheFaceShop line. The fashion giant objected on the grounds that the trademark was too similar to its own, which is also used for its line of cosmetics and fragrance.

Principal Assistant Registrar of Trade Marks, Sandy Widjaja, overruled Mango’s objections last week, stating that the two trademarks, as well as the products’ price points and service offered were determining factors, noting that these factors ‘point away from a likelihood of confusion’.
