THE WHAT? TikTok is gearing up to introduce a number of features to its site that will enable e-commerce and affiliate marketing this year, according to a report published by the Financial Times.
THE DETAILS The Chinese video platform will allow users to earn commission on any sales resulting from links they share as well as roll out livestream shopping capabilities and targeted ads.
THE WHY? The Financial Times says that the new features will enable the platform to pose a real threat to other social media giants such as Facebook. TikTok’s ability to monetize its audience of young users is the stuff of dreams for brands, some 63 percent of those that use the platform regularly are not on Twitter and 40 percent do not have a Facebook account.
