THE WHAT? Tokyo Fashion Week has announced it is to live stream the event on its website, with Fall collections being showcased over the course of a two-week period.
THE DETAILS The news follows the cancellation of the event earlier this month due to the coronavirus outbreak, with organizers now having taken the decision to run the full Tokyo Fashion Week FW20 online until 26th March.
Designers such as DressedUndressed, Forsomeone and Mint Design will show off their collections, with the noticeable absence of front-row visitors and media.
THE WHY? While live streaming has recently been adopted by many fashion events as a way in which to work around the social distancing requirements following the COVID-19 outbreak, the development has been coming to the fore for some time.
As the environmental impact, and cost, of fashion shows is increasingly called into question, could the increased occurrence of the new digitalized format herald a new era for the industry?
