THE WHAT? Twitter has launched a pilot in the US to test an e-commerce functionality, according to a report published by Tech Crunch.
THE DETAILS The social media site’s Shop Module, as the new widget is called, will allow businesses to showcase their products directly to followers and purchase within the app.
The new feature will be tested by a select number of businesses – Tech Crunch estimates 10 to 12.
THE WHY? With Instagram, facebook and TikTok, among others, all offering shopping functionality, and social shopping booming as a result of the pandemic, Twitter has some catching up to do. The social media site is hoping to better understand what would encourage users to view it as a shopping platform.
