THE WHAT? The UK’s new finance minister, Kwasi Kwarteng has announced that he intends to reverse the previous chancellor’s decision to end duty free shopping, according to a report published by Reuters.
THE DETAILS Combined with the plummeting value of the pound, the move will make a visit to the UK an attractive prospect for international tourists.
What’s more, to make tax-free shopping even easier, the paper system is set to be replaced with a digital log ‘as soon as possible’.
THE WHY? Kwarteng stated during a parliamentary presentation, per Reuters, “Brita8in welcomes millions of tourists every year, and I want our high streets and airports, our ports and our shopping centres, to feel the economic benefit. So we have decided to introduce VAR-free shopping for overseas visitors.”
