Unilever celebrates Global Handwashing Day with festival in Ghanaian capital

Unilever Ghana celebrated Global Handwashing Day yesterday (October 15) with a handwashing festival in Accra’s Independence Square, according to a report published by Ghana Web.

The Anglo-Dutch FMCG giant’s Lifebuoy brand commemorated the day by bringing its High 5 for Handwashing campaign to the streets. The event set two Guinness World Records on handwashing with soap as 2,500 children and dignitaries from the Ministries of Education, Health, Gender, Children and Social Protection, and Water Resources and Sanitation gathered to raise awareness of the importance of using soap to kill germs.

Unilever Ghana Foundation has also installed seven hygiene stations at schools in Tema to help encourage personal hygiene and spread the word about disease prevention.
