Unilever Philippines begins transition to 100 percent renewable energy through First Gen Corp power purchase agreement

Unilever Philippines has announced it will be working to transition its operations to 100 percent renewable energy by 2018 through a power purchase agreement with First Gen Corp.

The agreement, signed through the company’s licensed retail electrical supplier First Gen Energy Solution, will go across Unilever Philippines Paco, Manila and Pasig facilities and allow them to be powered by renewable energy. The move follows a previous agreement signed for the provision of geothermal energy for its Cavite facility.

The move comes as part of the company’s Sustainable Living Plan, which also has the goal of being carbon positive in all its operations by 2030.

Unilever Philippines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Benjie Yap spoke in a statement to say, “The partnership between Unilever and First Gen underscores our commitment to sustainable manufacturing operations. We continually improve the way we manufacture, distribute, and operate so that we can positively impact our customers, communities, and the environment.”
