Unilever to up efficiency with digital factories

Unilever is building digital twins for its factories in order to test out operational changes and monitor conditions in the virtual world, according to a report published by Supply & Demand Chain Executive.

The strategy will enable the Anglo-Dutch  FMCG giant to be more flexible and efficient with devices embedded in equipment sending real time data to its digital equivalent enabling adjustments to be made to optimize output.

The virtual model has been trialled in Brazil and was said to have saved the maker of Sure deodorant some US$2.8 million; Unilever is now working with Microsoft to replicate the model across all 70 sites.
