Vegan activists close MAC’s Brighton store

Lauder-owned MAC Cosmetics was compelled to close a standalone store in Brighton, UK after a peaceful protest was staged directly outside, according to a report published by local Brighton newspaper, The Argus.

The protestors, who were part of activist group Direct Action Everywhere, lay on the pavement and held up placards outside the shop in a bid to raise awareness of the cruelty of animal testing. The controversial practice has long been banned for cosmetics sold across the European Union but continues to be required for cosmetics sold in China.

“We have animal rights activists outside the shop, it is all getting a bit out of hand,” a staff member told The Argus. “We have had to shut the shop.”
