THE WHAT? Walmart is poised to launch its own equivalent of Amazon Prime, according to a report published by Bloomberg.
THE DETAILS Walmart+, as the service has been dubbed, will be spearheaded by Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside and build on the retailer’s existing subscription service.
A spokesperson for Walmart confirmed plans for the program but wouldn’t be drawn on further details when contacted by Bloomberg.
THE WHY? With Amazon offering its Prime members free grocery deliveries, Walmart has to innovate to retain its 20 percent market share over the category.
