The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a project of the Breast Cancer Fund has published a report claiming that several anti-aging products contain perfluorooctonoic acid (PFOA) – known commercially as Teflon – a chemical said to be linked to cancer, endocrine disruption and reproductive harm.
The US pressure group sent samples of skin care products by leading multinational brands to an independent laboratory, finding PFOA in six of the 17 PTFE-containing products tested.
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is calling on Congress to grant further authority to the FDA to test and recall products, allowing it to ensure the safety of cosmetics by amending and ultimately passing the Personal Care Products Safety Act 2015.
