Will they reopen? John Lewis mulls options post-lockdown

THE WHAT? John Lewis is said to be considering a number of options that will see the business take a tentative step away from retail after lockdown, according to a report published by The Times.

THE DETAILS The UK department store operator is said to be considering keeping the doors closed of some of its stores for good, as well as bringing in an investor to help the group move into services.

John Lewis already offers finance and home-related services such as curtain fitting and design.

THE WHY? With widespread store closures, bricks-and-mortar retailers have born the brunt of COVID-19 lockdowns. The virus has emphasized the value of a diversified business model.
