Yassir Acquires Uno Retail Chain to Expand Hybrid Retail and E-commerce Network

THE WHAT? Algerian e-commerce and on-demand services startup Yassir has acquired the Uno retail chain from Cevital Group.

THE DETAILS Following the acquisition, the stores will be rebranded as Yassir Market, with the flagship location set to open at Bab Ezzouar Shopping Center in Algeria. The move comes after Jumia exited the grocery and large-scale retail sector in North Africa.

Yassir plans to renovate existing stores and open new branches offering groceries, consumer goods, cosmetics, premium products and quick-service food. Transactions will be processed through Yassir Cash, supported by more than 5,000 agents, while customers can earn and redeem rewards through the Yassir+ loyalty programme. The company is also developing a B2B logistics network to handle wholesale deliveries for institutional clients such as embassies and corporations.

THE WHY? The acquisition supports Yassir’s strategy to integrate physical retail into its digital ecosystem, creating a hybrid shopping model that combines e-commerce, logistics and in-store experiences.
