K-beauty brands take further hit as Shanghai lockdown extended

THE WHAT? K-beauty brands such as AmorePacific are likely to feel the effects of China’s renewed lockdowns keenly, according to a report published by The Korea Times.

THE DETAILS AmorePacific told The Korea Times that it was ‘closely monitoring’ developments in the city. The Shanghai shutdown has forced the K-beauty giant to temporarily close its manufacturing plant but should not cause a significant disruption to supply.

THE WHY? China’s continued zero-Covid strategy has meant renewed lockdowns as Omicron and the related BA.2 variant surge across the globe. “We do not believe the lockdown and movement restrictions will continue for much longer than previously expected. Monitoring developments and complying with authorities’ health guidelines are all we can do at this point,” a spokesperson for the company told The Korea Times.
