Walmart Chief Marketing Officer Barbara Messing has stepped down from her role, with Michael Francis having been brought in to head up retail marketing.
According to an internal company memo by Walmart Chief Customer Officer Janey Whiteside, Francis, who has worked with the company on a consultancy basis since 2015, will join the company full time to ‘guide the Retail Marketing team.’
Francis previously held the roles of CMO for Target, Chief Brand Officer for DreamWorks and JC Penney President.
According to the memo, Whiteside stated Messing had led, “memorable and effective creative campaigns that reached our customers in new and unexpected ways.”
The company is seeking a permanent Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Retail Marketing to serve in the newly created team.
